Following the release of “A.D.” earlier this month, Hatebreed fans can now hear the second single from the band’s seventh studio album, The Concrete Confessional. “Looking Down the Barrel of Today,” which also happens to follow “A.D.” on the track list, hits you like a speeding train. It’s here one moment, gone the next, and the aftershock is monumental. Within seconds, Jasta is growling, “Once I had a shotgun to my head, they said I wasn’t worth the bullets,” as Byrne’s drums provide an almost heartbeat-like effect in the background. Truth be told, on a technical level, this new single isn’t nearly as impressive as “A.D.”, and the positive message is a little heavy handed, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me want to get up and jump around the room. It does a great job of getting the blood pumping, and despite its faults, I’m still incredibly excited for the new record.
