As we quickly approach the release of Mark of the Blade, Whitechapel decides to release the album’s second single, “The Void.” Although I wasn’t too thrilled with the band’s first single last month, my excitement for their new album never wavered. There’s something about Whitechapel’s overall sound that is so appealing to me, and thankfully, “The Void” managed to win me over, for the most part. I think the instrumentation is great, the lyrics are better than what we heard on the title track, but unfortunately “The Void” is not without its faults. The song has a strict verse-chorus-verse format that makes everything feel really stiff, and I’m a little curious as to who is producing the album, because the mixing is rough–like, really rough. Still, it’s a step in the right direction, and hopefully the rest of the tracklist is a little more refined.
Mark of the Blade is scheduled for release on June 24th. “The Void” can be streamed below, and if you’re so inclined, you can grab your pre-order on the band’s online store.
