With Still Standing coming soon, Illmaculate blesses us with the EP’s second single, “Oscar Nominee.” And boy is this one a heat rock. Between Chase Moore’s piano loop and drum beats that feel deceptively organic, you’re draw in almost instantly, and Illmac just knocks it out of the park. Discussing feelings of self-doubt, pointless relationships, and being misunderstood by his peers, the song’s lyrics are heavily relatable. The cherry on top is that it’s all tied together with a hook that is surprisingly vulnerable in its brashness. I was a little lukewarm on “Excuses,” but this latest cut has significantly increased my excitement for the new project.

“Best friends that never talk, chicks I get involved with. Every win took several losses, the lesson’s daunting. Trying to evil backwards, stepping forward. What you jealous for? Told her water don’t flow upward and to never force it.”
