Illmac & Calvin Valentine Release The Red Tape

You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me. Is this real life?

Back in 2011, Illmaculate and G_Force linked up to release The Green Tape, a track-by-track reworking of Al Green’s Lay It Down. The album is not only a staple in the Sandpeople catalog, but it’s one of Illmac’s most cohesive projects to date. Well, it was announced last week that Illmac had a few projects slated to drop in 2017 (one of which is entirely produced by Smoke M2D6), and not one to keep us waiting long, he released the first one today: The Red Tape, the follow-up to 2011’s The Green Tape. If the intro is any indication, the production consists entirely of Otis Redding samples, though whether or not they’re pulling from any one album, I cannot say. But what a way to kick off the new year.

You can stream the album on Bandcamp below.
