Grieves Continues Challenging Expectations on “Gutz”

Now that his fanbase has had a few weeks to sit with the polarizing “RX,” Grieves has released the second music video off his upcoming album Running Wild. There was some heavy backlash when the first single dropped, but I expect it’s going to be even worse this time around, as Grieves takes his sound into an even weirder and more unexpected direction on “Gutz.” Backed by some horns and a really wobbly synth lead, “Gutz” has Grieves outlining his love/hate relationship with this woman. While the theme isn’t exactly new territory for him, his delivery here is definitely unconventional, with what I can only assume is some James Blake influence. Grieves has always had a slightly eccentric personality, and personally, I feel it’s on full display on this cut. It’s odd, it’s unexpected, and it’s exciting.

Running Wild is set to release on August 28th. Pre-orders can be found here.
